5 Day Perfume Course In New York City, May 5-9, 2008

New York -- Lightyears, Inc. is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a 5-day Perfumery Workshop for industry professionals this May 5th through May 9th in New York City in association with PerfumersWorld, Ltd.

Since 1995 PerfumersWorld has trained over 3,000 students from more than 40 countries in "The Art and Technology of Perfumery" through courses developed by perfumer Stephen V. Dowthwaite, a working professional with 37 years experience in the industry and creator of several hundred perfume, aromatherapy, spa and flavor compounds currently on the market in over 60 countries. The 5-day New York course will feature Dowthwaite as guest lecturer.

On May 7th, Hugues Thibaud, head of of O.Berk's luxury packaging group, will present information on the technology of semi-automatic bottle making which is now being used to produce custom and factice bottles in runs of less than 50 bottles. Thibaud's most recent project was a signed, limited edition set of decorative bottles created by legendary package designer, Pierre Dinand.

Former and current students of PerfumersWorld's intensive courses include university professors, research chemists, industry professionals, perfumers, trainee perfumers, evaluators, marketing, laboratory and perfumery raw material buyers.

In the 5-Day New York workshop, participants will develop a profound knowledge and understanding of the complex and sometimes secretive art and business of perfumery as it exists worldwide today. While important concepts from fragrance chemistry will be discussed, no prior knowledge of chemistry is required or expected.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to gain a solid foundation knowledge of such important topics as smelling techniques, odor classification, odor communication, raw materials, essential oils and natural perfumery materials, aroma chemicals, specialties, perfume structure, perfume families, creative techniques, perfume applications for household, industry, aromatherapy and spa, perfect aromatherapy blends, the perfume inquiry, understanding, interpreting customers requirements, fulfillment of customers requirements, interpreting trends, the x-factor in perfumery, simple product testing, overview of quality control techniques, and overview of safety and regulation.

The 5-Day course integrates morning lecture sessions with afternoon "hands on" activities, a multi-sensory training technique that dramatizes and reinforces course materials. For those not directly familiar with the raw materials of perfumery, the course offers the opportunity to examine the physical state and odor of several hundred perfumery materials, both natural and synthetic. (Those with chemical sensitivities are NOT good candidates for this training!)

Employers will find the 5-day course an excellent and affordable opportunity to stimulate both their own and their employees' interest in perfumery and help fill gaps in their knowledge and understanding. Training in many of the topics covered by the course is difficult to obtain, even within the industry.

The 5-day course is limited to 50 participants. Companies with a special requirement for confidential in-house training should contact Philip Goutell at PerfumeProjects.com.
