Travel Directions to the Warwick Center
Warwick, New York
For the 5-Day Perfumery Course & Workshop
May 4-8, 2009

We've been asked for travel directions to the Warwick Center by a number of people and so I've put together this page of information. You may find it a bit "general" as people will be coming from a number of directions — and countries — and using different modes of transportation.

If you need additional help, please contact me and I'll try to help.

Version 9.025

The Perfumers Workbook

If you have purchased the PerfumersWorld Foundation Course you are already familiar with the The Perfumers Workbook. It has been called "the most advanced creative perfumery tool available outside a major fragrance house" and it can be used to suggest ways to fine tune your existing formula — tweaking your formula with aroma materials you had not considered and balancing the materials you have selected to give you your desired result — or it can be used to create entire perfume formulas from the fragrance descriptions you supply.

Version 9.025 of The Perfumers Workbook will be distributed as course material to all members of the 2009 5-Day Workshop Group but you can download it now! Be patient! The file is 17.5 megabytes.

Experimenting with The Perfumers Workbook is a great way to prepare yourself (and your questions) for the 2009 5-Day Perfumery Workshop at Warwick, NY. It will give you a taste of what you can expect to encounter face-to-face and, yes, at the Workshop Steve Dowthwaite will cover the use of The Perfumers Workbook in depth. Register for the Workshop now. And don't forget to bring you laptop!

International Travelers

New York City has three major airports — LaGuardia, Newark Liberty (located in Newark, New Jersey), and JFK. Your most likely first stop in the U.S.A. will be JFK International Airport where you will go through customs and passport control.

If you are not renting a car at the airport to drive to Warwick, you will now go to New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal, located at Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan, where you can catch the NJ Transit #196, #197, or #198 bus to the Village of Warwick. I've posted the bus schedule here. (If you are arriving late at night, you will have to spend the night in New York and then catch the bus in the morning.)

To get from JFK Airport to the Port Authority Bus Station, a taxi is the favorite choice of business travelers. This costs about $45. However, there is also a bus available which you can catch outside your airline terminal which will take you directly to the Port Authority Bus Station. This costs about $12 to $15. Be sure to ask questions to make sure you are taking the correct bus!

For experienced travelers there is also a fast, inexpensive (about $7) way to get from JFK to the Port Authority Bus Station. This is the AirTrain and it involves taking a special bus to a subway station where you will catch the "A" train which will stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street). This system, while fast and inexpensive, can be a bit confusing if you don't know your way around New York City.

For travelers who don't mind spening the money, you can arrange to be picked up by a Limousine Service and driven directly to the Warwick Center. You'll see some local (Warwick) listings for limousine services below. These arrangements must be made with the limousine service in advance of your flight.

For additional help on travel from JFK to Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal, try these websites:

Domestic Air Travel

The closest airport to the Warwick Center is Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, New York, where rental cars are available. This is a small, friendly, local "international" airport about 20 minutes from my house and about 45 minutes drive from the Warwick Center.

Other airport in the area are Newark Liberty (Newark, New Jersey), LaGuardia (Queens, New York), and JFK (Queens, New York). All have car rentals available.

If you are coming to Warwick by air but not planning to rent a car, simply find transportation from the airport at which you arrive to Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal and catch the #197 or #198 bus to the Village of Warwick. I've posted the bus schedule here.

By Bus (From New York City's Port Authority Bus Station)

You can reach the Warwick Center by taking the NJ Transit # 196, #197, or #198 bus to Warwick from Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal. The NJ Transit bus makes two stops in Warwick, at the Park & Ride and in the Village of Warwick at the corner of Oakland Avenue and Orchard Street, by the Burger King. If you have made arrangements for us to meet you, we suggest that we meet at the "Park & Ride" — the first stop in Warwick. If you have not called to be picked up, we suggest that you get off at the second stop — Oakland Avenue and Orchard Street — as you'll find shelter at local business while waiting for us to drive over to meet you. It's best to tell us when you are coming so we can be ready to meet your bus. Here's the bus schedule.

Limousine Service

If you make arrangements with one of these services in advance of your flight, you can be picked up at your arrival gate at the airport and driven directly to the Warwick Center. While not exactly cheap, this is a confortable way to make your journey from the city to the country. Here are some local (Warwick) listings for limousine services. We, ourselves, have not used any of them. You will have to make arrangements by phone.

  • A Windsor Limousine Service. Call 845-986-8667.
  • AGM Smith Limousine. Call 845-986-1222.
  • All Occasion Limousine Service. Call 845-986-8353.
  • Crown Vicky Limousine Service. Call 845-986-9922.
  • Josie's Taxi. Call 845-986-8073.

By Car

You can find precise driving instructions by using Google Maps with the starting point as your home address and the destination as "Warwick Center Warwick New York". The Warwick Center is a low profile institution so the signs at the bottom of the hill (on Route 94) and on Hoyt Road (going up or down the hill) are small. Keep your eyes peeled! The Warwick Center is about four miles from the center of the Village of Warwick, as the crow flies. Driving, a bit farther. If you have a GPS device in your car, you'll find it helpful.

Finally . . .

If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us and we'll try to help you find a practical travel solution.

We look forward to meeting you at our 2005 5-Day Perfumery Workshop — May 4-8, 2009!
