L'Aimant was created for François Coty by Vincent Roubert. Roubert had become Coty's lab director in 1923 and had absorbed much of Coty's thinking about perfume. L'Aimant was a solid success and it is said that the wife of Jacques Guerlain — creator of Shalimar and one of the all time great perfumers — prefered L'Aimant over her husband's more complex creations.
