Tabu was created by perfumer Jean Carles (working for Roure under Louis Amic). The perfume brief he was given (so the story goes) required him to create "un parfum de puta" a perfume suitable for a loose woman. Thus was Tabu created in 1932. Of course it was wonderfully popular for generations.
Jean Carles was known for doing wonders with simple perfume formulas using inexpensive ingredients.
