Starting with a business of manufacturing and marketing patented medical atomizers, around 1907 DeVilbiss branched out into 'perfumizers' perfume atomizers. The move made a good deal of marketing sense as both products were distributed through drug stores many of which also sold perfume.
Today DeVilbiss medical atomizers are sometimes confused with the perfumizers but a look at any example of the DeVilbiss perfumizer should be enough to educate the eye against making this mistake. The perfume atomizers were elegant; the medical atomizers were very, very "medical" in appearance. Once you have seen them both, there is no mistaking one for the other.
